An entire hospital fighting heart disease.

Strong Hearts Program

A program for managing Congestive Heart Failure

Strong Hearts, an outpatient care program at Arkansas Heart Hospital, offers a healthier, less expensive and more convenient way to manage congestive heart failure.  We can help you control congestive heart failure through regular weekly treatments before your condition becomes unstable.

CHF Can Be Managed

Congestive heart failure, a condition that can prevent the heart from pumping enough blood to meet the needs of the body's other organs, is one of heart disease's most serious side effect.   For many, congestive heart failure means expensive treatment or rushing to the emergency room when symptoms become unbearable.  Congestive heart failure patients are often admitted to the hospital during episodes for medication, but discharged without a long-term way to manage their condition.

Arkansas Heart Hospital's outpatient Strong Hearts Program also provides a series of classes to support patients and families.  Topics include medications, diet, exercise and dealing with the emotional trials of congestive heart failure.

Through regular treatment, you can manage CHF and gain a peace of mind.  Our treatment program includes a regimen of education to help you manage your condition and medication to stabilize your symptoms between visits.  We also encourage your physician to monitor your progress at the clinic while you are being treated.

Medications

Your medications will be administered by infusion directly into your bloodstream through an IV.  Throughout the four - to six - hour session, your heart activities and blood levels will be monitored by a registered nurse who specializes in congestive heart failure.  Your physician may prescribe medications including ACE inhibitors, beta blocker, digitalis, diuretics and vasodilators.  Each drug performs a different function.  ACE inhibitors and vasodilators expand blood vessels and facilitate blood flow.  Beta blockers improve functioning of your left ventricle.  Digitalis increases the pumping action of your heart, and diuretics help your body decrease swelling by eliminating excess sodium and water.

Comprehensive Treatment

Arkansas Heart Hospital was designed by cardiologists dedicated to practicing their heart saving skills at a higher level.  Because we specialize in heart care, we are specially prepared to treat congestive heart failure.  We will explore every treatment avenue to manage your congestive heart failure.
