Arkansas has the fifth highest death rate from heart disease in the United States. We rank 17th in the nation for incidents of heart disease. Surprisingly a large number of those suffering from heart disease do not have any obvious outward signs; for many, their very first symptom is a heart attack. Arkansas Heart Hospital has initiated a program to help you assess your cardiovascular risk and then help you move in a direction that may keep you from becoming a statistic.
What is KEEP THE BEAT?
Keep the Beat is a cardiac screening consisting of nine components. Each component helps us build your cardiovascular risk profile. Once we build your risk profile, we can then assist you in moving forward to make good choices about your heart health. The earlier heart disease is detected, the greater the chance that it can be slowed, stopped or even reversed.
KNOWING CAN SAVE YOUR LIFE
No matter what the results, Keep the Beat can let you know where you stand in the fight against heart disease. What you learn from this screening may very well change the way you live your life. Keep the Beat is all about determining your risk of heart disease and providing you with valuable information to ensure that you keep your heart as healthy as possible.
What are the nine components?
- Lipid panel: Total cholesterol, HDL, LDL & Triglycerides
- Resting EKG
- ABI - Peripheral Vascular screening (legs)
- Blood Sugar
- Blood Pressure
- Nutrition Assessment
- Body Composition
- HSCT - CT scan of the heart to assess hard calcium deposits in and around the coronary arteries
- 10 Year Risk Assessment - assessment of risk of heart disease over the next ten years.
Who does the screening?
All tests are performed by clinical professionals on-site at Arkansas Heart Hospital.
What about the results?
Your results will be given to you the same day. Our Keep the Beat Program Coordinator will go over each component with you, helping you understand what it means to your overall risk of heart disease. Keep the Beat is not intended to replace routine checks and follow-ups with your doctor. If desired, we will forward all of your results to your primary care physician. Any follow up that is done will be based upon your preference and your level of identified risk.
Is there a charge?
Yes. The cost is $125. Since Keep the Beat is not covered by insurance, payment is expected at the time of service.
How do I get a Keep the Beat screening?
Screenings are done Monday - Friday by appointment. Call 501-219-7489 to schedule.
