Gustavo Guajardo
M.D.

After graduating first in his class from ITESM School of Medicine in Monterrey, Mexico, Dr. Guajardo completed his General Surgery residency at the University of Texas Health Center in San Antonio, where he was chosen Administrative Chief Resident his last year. Following that, he was a cardiothoracic fellow at MD Anderson/Methodist Hospital in Houston with rotations in cardiac, thoracic and esophageal surgery. Subsequently, he practiced at the University of Texas, focusing on aortic cases and TAVR. Dr. Guajardo’s interests include aortic surgery, off-pump coronary surgery and minimally invasive surgery (VATS, lobectomies and TAVR). Dr. Guajardo sees patients at Arkansas Heart Hospital Clinic in Little Rock. In his spare time, Dr. Guajardo enjoys archery, running and cooking.

Joe Forney

Dr. Forney is board certified in Internal Medicine and
Cardiovascular Disease. He is originally from Hannibal, Missouri.
After serving in the United States Navy, Dr. Forney attended
undergraduate school at the University of Missouri at St. Louis
and then the University of Missouri Medical School. After
medical school, he completed his internship and residency in
Internal Medicine at the University of Nebraska. During this
time, he conducted research in cardiopulmonary resuscitation
in the Emergency Room. Following fellowship, Dr. Forney
established a cardiac catheterization laboratory and full line
of cardiac services at a community hospital in Missouri. He
then moved to Arizona and began serving as a cardiologist in
the Phoenix, Arizona area, where he remained for 16 years. Dr.
Forney moved to West Plaines, Missouri and worked there from
2006-2012.Dr. Forney’s hobbies include exercise, playing with
his grandchildren and showing quarter horses. He currently
serves on the Board of Directors of the Arkansas Ranch Sorting
Association and shows cow horses at these events. In addition
to his main clinic in Little Rock, Dr. Forney also sees patients in
our North Little Rock office.

Monica Lo

Dr. Monica Lo was born in Taiwan and moved with her family to Texas when she was 12 years old. She graduated with honors from Rice University. She then received her medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She stayed at UT Southwestern to complete her internal medicine residency and fellowships in cardiology and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease. Dr. Lo was awarded the American Heart Association Women in Cardiology Trainee Award for Excellence. She specializes in the electrical conduction of the heart and treats patients with a variety of heart rhythm disturbances, including atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. She is an active member of the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society and has given several talks at national meetings. During her time off, she loves to travel with her husband, who is also a cardiologist. They are excited to welcome the imminent birth of their daughter.

Erick Araneda

Dr. Erick Araneda, although raised in the US, is originally from Guatemala.  After high school he returned to his native country to study medicine in Guatemala.  Returning to the US after medical school, he completed residency at UAMS in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1994.  He then moved to Lexington, KY, to finish fellowship in cardiology at the University of Kentucky in 1998.  He also served concurrently in the Army National Guard from 1994-2002 in both Arkansas and Kentucky. 

Since being in private practice, Dr. Araneda has resided in Searcy, Arkansas for one year and Mountain Home, Arkansas for the last 13 years.  His current practice includes both diagnostic and interventional cardiology, including coronary stent placement, as well as pacemakers and biventricular defibrillators.  He is board certified in cardiovascular disease. 

He has recently moved to Cabot, Arkansas with his wife, Karla, and their 3 daughters, Jayme, Kassandra, and Sophia.  They are looking forward to becoming very involved in the Cabot community.  His personal interests include mountain biking, road cycling, and triathlons.

Brad LeMay is a cardiologist working with Arkansas Heart Hospital at their Hot Springs facility. He is originally from North Little Rock, Arkansas and completed his training at the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences program in 1993. He was a founding member of Central Arkansas Cardiovascular Institute in Hot Springs where he lived and worked from 1993 to 2010. Prior to joining Heart Hospital, he was responsible for developing a cardiac program in Natchez, Mississippi where he continues to be involved in historical preservation and conservation. His interests include antebellum homes, American furniture, and Imperial Russian history . He is board certified in cardiovascular medicine and his primary interest is in cardiac differential diagnosis and management. He currently lives in Hot Springs and can be contacted at the Arkansas Heart Hospital Clinic of Hot Springs (501-767-2399).

Mehmet Cilingiroglu

Dr. Cilingiroglu received his medical degree Cum Laude from the Hacettepe University, Faculty of Medicine in Turkey. He completed his residency in internal medicine at The Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA. He was then awarded the prestigious fellowship by The Baylor College of Medicine and DeBakey Heart Center in Cardiovascular Diseases as American Heart Association Bugher Fellow in Houston, TX. He completed his Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at The University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, TX. He also completed a Structural Heart Disease fellowship at The NorthShore University under the mentorship of World-renowned Dr. Ted Feldman in Evanston, IL. In addition to being the Director of Structural Heart Interventions, Dr. Cilingiroglu also served as the Director of Interventional Research at The University of Maryland Medical Center. He is Associate Professor of Medicine at The University of Pittsburgh Heart and Vascular Institute in Pittsburgh, PA.

Dr. Cilingiroglu has several publications in prestigious journals as well as book chapters. Received several prestigious awards for his important contributions to the field of Cardiovascular Medicine. He is also one of the inventors of the intravascular optical coherence tomography (OCT). He is on the editorial board of several scientific peer reviewed journals. He has been very active also in academic medicine with particular emphasis on teaching, education and research.

Dr. Cilingiroglu’s clinical interests cover a wide range of interventional cardiology patients. In addition to percutaneous treatment of coronary artery disease, his expertise includes catheter- based treatment of valvular heart disease and adult congenital heart defects as well as peripheral vascular interventions. Dr. Mehmet is also a formally trained structural heart specialist. In his free time, he enjoys fishing, music, singing and spending time with his family. He insists that we all call him, “Dr. Mehmet.”

Dr. Cilingiroglu has been named Medical Director of the Peripheral Vascular Institute. He has also has been named Associate Professor of Medicine at UAMS.

Vasili Lendel

Dr. Lendel is originally from Russia and moved to Nova Scotia in 2000 for a fellowship to study medicine.  He completed his residency, cardiology and interventional cardiology fellowship at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in 2007.  He then went into private practice at the Memphis Heart Clinic in Memphis, Tennessee.  Dr. Lendel has been at Arkansas Heart Hospital since August, 2011.  His accomplishments include many medical and academic distinctions.  Dr. Lendel has participated in many medical research studies and has spent time volunteering in hospitals and nursing homes.  He currently resides in Little Rock with his wife, who is an endocrinologist, and his two daughters.  Dr. Lendel’s personal interests include music, reading and athletics, especially soccer, hiking, running and fishing.

Dr. Kajitani obtained his Medical Degree from Hokkaido University School of Medicine in Sapporo, Japan, in 1985. He is board certified in Thoracic and General Surgery, both in the U.S. and Japan. Dr. Kajitani has trained at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Yokosuka, Japan, Hokkaido University, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, Oregon Health Sciences University, and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He came to the U.S.A. for a Fellowship in Clinical Pharmacology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Wong remained at Vanderbilt to finish his Fellowships in Cardiology and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology. Dr. Wong practiced for eight years as a cardiologist at Summers County Appalachian Regional Healthcare Hospital in Hinton, WV. Before coming to Arkansas Heart Hospital Clinic, he held such positions as Chief of the Cardiopulmonary Department, Chairman of the Ethics Committee and Chief of Medical Staff. Dr. Wong is involved in research, has had nearly two decades of teaching experiences and has authored several publications in leading medical journals. Dr. Wong specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of general cardiology, nuclear medicine, transthoracic and trans-esophageal echocardiography, fast cardiac CT angiography, cardiac catheterization, myocardial biopsy, cardiac arrhythmias, Head-Up Tilt Test electrophysiology study, radiofrequency catheter ablation and pacemaker or defibrillator implantation and follow-up.

Dr. Rollefson remained at Brooke Army Medical Center for several years as Director of Cardiovascular Interventions before coming to Arkansas Heart Hospital Clinic. The recipient of numerous awards (including Outstanding Staff Teacher and Outstanding Original Research), Dr. Rollefson has been well recognized for his talents in medicine, teaching and research.

Dr. Ribeiro, who is Board Certified in Cardiology, was most recently a Professor Medicine and Director of the Cardiology Fellowship Program at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, California. He received his Medical Degree in 1977 from Universidade do Porto in Porto, Portugal, and his Ph.D. from Universidade Nova De Lisboa in 1992. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Fellowship in Cardiology at Hammersmith Hospital, Royal Postgraduate Medical School in London, England, in 1984. He is also a fellow in the American College of Cardiology and the European Society of Cardiology. Dr. Ribeiro has published 130 manuscripts and 34 papers in peer-reviewed cardiology journals. In addition, Dr. Ribeirio has published seven book chapters, including one in Dr. Eric Topol’s Textbook of Interventional Cardiology. He has been a reviewer for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, British Heart Journal, American Journal of Cardiology and European Heart Journal.

Dr. Mego graduated from Washington and Jefferson College in his native Pennsylvania before getting his M.D. from Harvard Medical School. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Cardiology Fellowship at Brooke Army Medical Center before completing his Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at the University of Texas in San Antonio. During his training, Dr. Mego served as Chief of Residents and earned the Commander’s Award for Outstanding Fellow Teacher. As a staff cardiologist, he held several positions at Brooke including Director of the Cardiac Transplant Program, Director of Echocardiography, and Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology. Now a partner at Arkansas Heart Hospital Clinic and Assistant Medical Director at Arkansas Heart Hospital, he is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Cardiology and the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions. Dr. Mego remains dedicated to continuing medical education and to clinical research, and his work has appeared in numerous publications.

An Arkansas native and specialist in Cardiovascular Medicine, Dr. Leding is Board Certified in both Cardiology and Nuclear Cardiology and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He graduated from the University of Central Arkansas prior to earning his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 1993. Dr. Leding completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Wilford Hall Medical Center and his Fellowship in Cardiology at Brooke Army Medical Center. Thereafter, Dr. Leding served his country in the United States Air Force working as a Staff Cardiologist and Flight Surgeon. He was an Aeromedical Consultant at Brooks Air Force Base along with being Director of Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology, and Medical Flight Screening. In 2003, Dr. Leding returned home to Arkansas and is now a partner at Arkansas Heart Hospital Clinic. He is also the Director of the Congestive Heart Failure Clinic at Arkansas Heart Hospital. Dr. Leding provides a full range of cardiovascular services including CT angiography, echocardiography, coronary and peripheral angiography and intervention, and nuclear cardiology. In addition to seeing patients at the Little Rock clinic, Dr. Leding offers satellite clinics in Mena, Russellville, and Searcy.

James J. Kane, Jr.

Dr. Kane is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease. He attended Hendrix College in his native Conway, AR, before studying at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He graduated with honors as a Doctor of Medicine in 1966. Dr. Kane completed his Internship, Residency and Fellowship at the University of Arkansas Medical Center, where he eventually became an Associate Professor of Medicine. Prior to joining Arkansas Heart Hospital Clinic, he worked as Staff Cardiologist at Little Rock Veterans Administration Hospital. Dr. Kane has accrued hundreds of hours of continuing education, and his work has appeared in over fifty medical publications.

Michael David Huber
M.D.

Dr. Huber is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Nuclear Cardiology. He graduated from Loyola College in Baltimore before attending medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii and Cardiology Fellowship at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas in 1998 and 2001, respectively. Before joining the Arkansas Heart Hospital Clinic, he was a staff cardiologist at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (LRMC) in Germany where he cared for acutely ill soldiers sent from Iraq and Afghanistan. While at LRMC, he was the director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and of the Advance Cardiac Life Support program. Dr. Huber’s skill set includes invasive, non-interventional cardiology, pacemaker implantation, nuclear cardiology, transesophageal echo, and IVC filter implantation.
