Diagnostic Medical Sonographer/Ultrasound Tech – ENCORE Radiology (PRN)

Position Summary:

Responsible for performing all assigned diagnostic ultrasound exams and vascular studies in a timely manner.  Performs procedures according to physician’s orders or per prescription on outpatients. As a member of the care team, the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is responsible for working collaboratively with other members to assure safe and accurate delivery of patient care. Assumes, under the direction of the Laboratory, responsibility for patient specimen testing, quality control, quality improvement, and equipment maintenance.

Primary Duties

  • Performs carotid ultrasounds utilizing 2-D, Colorflow and pulsed-wave Doppler.
  • Performs abdominal aorta ultrasounds utilizing 2-D, Colorflow and pulsed-wave Doppler.
  • Performs renal artery ultrasounds using 2-D, Colorflow and pulsed-wave Doppler.
  • Performs peripheral vascular ultrasounds (venous and arterial) when necessary.
  • Evaluates each test and provides physicians, when necessary, with preliminary reports.
  • Exercises personal judgment regarding when to notify physicians of a test result immediately.
  • Orders and stocks all supplies, anticipating future needs (i.e., gel bottles, gowns, tapes).
  • Attends to weekly duties as designated.
  • Ensures completed studies are available to the Cardiologist, Radiologist or appropriate physician.
  • Maintains all equipment used.
  • Maintains accurate logs of all studies performed.
  • Performs abdominal and general ultrasounds.
  • Performs Point of Care procedures in a timely manner according to established policy and procedure. Documents required information and complies with all Point of Care quality control standards.

Qualifications/Specifications:

  • Education: Associate of Science degree in diagnostic ultrasound or certificate of successful completion from an accredited school of ultrasound. Bachelor of Science in Sonography preferred.
  • Licensure / Certification: Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) completed within one (1) year of hire date and/or placement into position required. Current BLS training completed within 90 days of employment or placement in position required. Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), with abdominal specialty, is preferred within six (6) year of hire date and/or placement into position. Certification is to be renewed by recommended renewal date on certification documentation.
  • Experience: None required. Minimum of one year experience in general ultrasound and vascular ultrasound preferred.
