What to Expect at My Procedure

Whether you’re having a diagnostic procedure or surgery, our team at Arkansas Heart will walk you through every step. Our goal  is to help you feel informed, prepared and supported every step of the way. Here we’ll guide you through what to expect before, during and after your procedure.

From your first consultation to your return home, we’re here to make sure you have the information, tools and support you need.

Before Your Procedure

  • You’ll receive detailed instructions from your care team about preparation, fasting, and medications.
  • Plan transportation, as you will not be able to drive home after your procedure.
  • Shower using the provided scrub and avoid lotions, powders or deodorants the day of your procedure.
  • Bring your insurance card, photo ID, and a list of your current medications.
  • Arrive two hours before your scheduled procedure time.

During Your Procedure

  • You’ll be prepped by our experienced nursing team, who will explain what’s happening and answer any last-minute questions.
  • Depending on your procedure, you may receive sedation or general anesthesia.
  • Your care team will stay in communication with your designated family member or support person throughout.

After Your Procedure

  • You’ll be monitored closely in recovery, with your comfort and safety as our top priorities.
  • Your physician or nurse will review any post-procedure instructions, medications, and follow-up appointments.
  • You’ll receive written discharge instructions so you know what to watch for and when to call your doctor.
  • Most patients return home the same day, though some procedures require a short hospital stay.
