Position Summary

The CV Surgery Clinic Manager serves to provide education to the patient regarding their respective surgery, develop hospital-physician relationships and increase patient referrals/admissions for the hospital by developing and maintaining relationships with physician practices and office staff. By providing a dual customer care service and marketing approach, the CV Surgery Clinic Manager helps to boost patient education and satisfaction and maintain profitable hospital-physician relations within a specific geographical region. This job includes, but is not limited to, providing patient education upon consultation, during hospital stay, and upon discharge, assisting the surgical clinic team with patient intake and care, as well as promoting the hospital to a variety of physician populations, communicating patient statuses with referring providers, developing and implementing strategies to enhance communications with physicians and other health care providers and increase volume for the hospital,  and analyzing physician needs and ensuring customer satisfaction. This professional staff person will also be responsible for overseeing the CV Surgery Department’s operations by ensuring Clinic Nurses are performing the proper tasks. assessing/reassessing patients, developing a plan of care and implementing and evaluating that care. Coordinates the activities of the CV Surgery Clinic for the purpose of maintaining a quality CV Surgery program. The CV Surgery Clinic Manager  works to ensure the Clinic adheres to all TJC and CMS guidelines and best clinical practices.

Work Schedule

 Flexible schedule to cover clinic times; primarily Monday through Friday.  Schedule changes as hospital and Clinic needs demand.

Primary Duties

  • Completes admission assessment and periodic reassessments according to patient’s progress and/or unit protocols and age-specific parameters. Documents findings and communicates all pertinent information to interdisciplinary team members as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members in the development, evaluation and revision of the plan of care as appropriate to meet the patient’s needs and goals.
  • Ensures the provision of a safe and comforting environment.
  • Sets the example for CV Surgery staff in assisting physicians in the clinical management of patients.
  • Assists physicians in understanding the hospital policies and procedures.
  • Provides education to patients/families/significant others, incorporating age-specific criteria and assessment of readiness to learn.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Maintains universal precautions.
  • Administers medications and completes treatments according to hospital policy and within age-specific parameters.
  • Facilitates discharge plan in collaboration with interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to use necessary patient care equipment.
  • Performs Point of Care procedures in a timely manner according to established policy and procedure.  Documents required information and complies with all Point of Care quality control standards.

Coordinator Tasks:

  • Assists in the overall operation of the hospital through active participation in projects aimed at achieving the hospital’s mission and incorporates the values of the hospital in day-to-day activities.
  • Identifies and targets physicians with best opportunities for increased referrals/admissions to the hospital.
  • Works under the Sr. Business Development Specialist to develop and implement physician outreach strategies for the CVS Surgery Department.
  • Contacts referring physicians and medical staff offices on a regular basis to initiate and/or maintain relationships, communicate hospital updates, obtain service feedback and provide educational information.
  • Consistently provides timely and effective follow-up after each physician meeting and patient referral.
  • Uses data, planning, communication and education to improve performance.
  • Supports a safe, quality environment for patients and staff.
  • Assists in the selection of staff, equipment, supplies and goods, for the running of the hospital, and caring for patients, with goals of quality and cost efficiency.
  • Communicates with staff and physicians on administrative issues and follows-up to bring closure to such issues.
  • Responsible for appropriate staffing levels to accommodate patient acuity and volume.
  • Participates in selecting outside sources for needed services.
  • Conducts performance reviews of staff and assists in the development of staff in collaboration with the Education Coordinator.
  • Supports the multi-skilled worker environment (i.e., cross training).
  • Assists staff in problem-solving and work issues.
  • Responds to issues of harassment and discrimination per company policy.

Qualifications/Specifications

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required; BSN preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Registered Nurse with current state licensure or licensure from a state within the Nursing Compact required. BLS certification required within 30 days of employment and prior to providing direct patient care. Successful completion of ACLS is required by the end of clinical orientation.  Certifications will be renewed by recommended renewal date on the certification documentation.
  • Experience: Minimum of five years RN-level experience in adult, acute care with cardiology/cardiovascular intensive care preferred. Minimum of two years supervisory experience preferred.
