Director of Intensive Cardiac Rehab

Responsible for marketing, planning, coordination, and daily operations of the Strong Hearts Department. Manages day to day patient care processes including but not limited to: providing a safe environment where members can achieve and maintain their fullest level of health and wellness; working with clinical services management and nursing staff to ensure the department is maintaining safe clinical practices; meeting TJC and CMS guidelines; coordinating fitness and wellness programs; coordinate with the business office in regards to insurance and payments; and collaborate with other departments as appropriate. This position assumes the leadership role for all cardiac rehab procedures, equipment, and operations of the department. This position requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.

Work Schedule

Flexible schedules to cover all shifts and weekends, as facility needs demand.

Primary Duties

  • Provides leadership in the formulation of objectives, philosophy, goals, and policies for the Rehab department
  • In coordination with clinical services management, identifies the educational needs of all cardiac rehab staff relative to advances in rehab treatments as well as changes in TJC and CMS requirements and ensures staff is trained accordingly.
  • Develop, organize, and oversee fitness and wellness programs, events and classes and ensuring a diversity of class offerings. Coordination of programs, services and classes including schedules, records and reports. Recommend new programs to promote wellness, produce revenues and minimize costs.
  • Supervise cardiac rehab and wellness center employees.
  • Conduct surveys to determine interest or satisfaction with the wellness and fitness programs, events and services.
  • Manage or oversee fitness facilities to ensure safe and clean facility and equipment. Maintain or arrange for maintenance of fitness equipment or facility.
  • Operate and instruct others in proper operation of fitness equipment.
  • Assist with budget preparation and purchasing and maintenance plans.
  • Documents required information and communicates to primary physician and direct care staff pertinent information.
  • Serves as a role model for the Cardiac rehab team in appearance and patient care focus
  • Informs and explains procedure to be performed to patients and what is expected in terms of his/her cooperation.
  • Assists staff in providing comprehensive direct patient care and assures a safe and comforting environment.
  • Consults with other staff and providers as necessary to meet the needs of the patient and family.
  • Possesses the knowledge of growth and development of patients across the life span (adolescent, adult and geriatric).
  • Recommends qualifications, the number of qualified, and competent staff that the department needs to provide quality patient care.
  • Maintain appropriate PI program.
  • Assist with and participate in orientation, in-service training, and continuing education of all persons in the department.
  • Evaluate staff competency via a peer review process.
  • Accountable for knowing and revising appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Other assigned duties as directed based on demonstrated competencies.

Staff/Unit Responsibilities

  • Delegates appropriately to staff in keeping with job descriptions, license requirements, and standards of practice.
  • Uses resources in an efficient and cost effective manner.
  • Participates in peer review.
  • Participates in developing other staff and affiliating students.
  • Maintains and develops own professional competencies.
  • Maintains and promotes a team spirit through active cooperation and collaboration.
  • Assists in interdepartmental service coordination.
  • Actively participates in the Performance Improvement and Utilization Review programs.
  • Assumes a leader role in the maintenance of the patient-focused care delivery system.
  • Assists in directing and guiding staff in the coordination of unit operations.
  • Assists in all aspects of care of the environment, such as dietary, housekeeping, infection control, and supply and equipment management.
  • Attends 80% of in-services and departmental meetings.
  • Help provide staff to other areas of the when needed.
  • Keeps Clinical Manager informed of clinic challenges and recommends solutions.
  • Completes employee evaluation(s) in a timely manner per company policy.

The above staff member must demonstrate the knowledge and skill levels necessary to provide care, based on defined criteria, that is appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area. The skill level and knowledge needed to provide such care is gained through education, training, and/or experience. When the individual does not meet the standard for a specific competency, he/she will not be allowed to care for the specified populations until retraining has occurred and competency has been demonstrated.

Qualifications/Specifications:

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Exercise Science, Nutrition or Nursing. Professional Certification preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Current BLS certification required. ACLS required within 6 months of employment. Renewal of certifications is due by the recommendation of renewal date on certification.
  • Experience: Three (3) to five (5) years of work experience in health and wellness; Two (2) plus years of supervisory experience preferred. Cardiac Rehab experience preferred
